Here we find a treatise on the future of agriculture

Every single day of the year at our farm in Seattle’s International District is the perfect summer day: pleasantly warm temperatures, cloud-free skies, long hours of light. You’re welcomed to come visit this winter, we’re much closer than Mexico!

And that’s just the point - Hanging Gardens employs controlled environment agriculture practices so we can offer the freshest crops to Seattle, year round. Your produce doesn’t have to be shipped from the Central Valley, or Yuma, or Mexico, or beyond. When the windstorms blow in November, when we only get 7 hours of daylight in December, or when that big snow storm happens in January, Hanging Gardens will still provide Seattle with fresh, local, produce.

We grow with a variety of methods, including automated growing racks of microgreens and baby greens, as well as the more hearty deep-water culture and ebb & flow methods of fully grown plants. These growing practices have been shown to consume significantly less water than traditional outdoor farming. And while we may rely on a bit more electricity than the average farm, we use highly efficient LED lights and enjoy a minuscule energy-based carbon footprint due to the prevalence of hydroelectric power in our backyard.
